At the beginning you're mostly skirmishing with the Orcs of the Misty Mountains unless you play defensively as it takes a while for the High Elves to get up troops.Medieval II Total War was released in 2006. Only once you decide to take it to the Orcs of the Misty Mountains will you be in an actual war against another faction. For your first couple turns you are mostly fighting rebels. No worries though because the forests around it provided for excellent protection and ambushes to be staged. High Elves are in a secluded part of the map away from many enemies except for Imladris which is pretty far from your main kingdom.

The main enemy at the beginning are the Orcs of Gundabad and The Orcs of the Misty Mountains (Who are busy with Dwarves and Silvan Elves so they most likely will leave you alone). IMO I'd start off with Free Peoples of Eriador or High Elves.Įriador is surrounded by allies in the Dwarves, Rohan, Gondor, and High Elves. Mordor has to deal with the combined might of nearly all of Middle Earth. Gondor has long recruitment and faces the hordes of Mordor and every evil faction is able to reach them. Don't start out as Gondor or Mordor if you have very little experience.
